The University of Texas at Austin founded the UIL in 1910 as two separate organisations: the Debating League of Texas High Schools (to administer debating events) and the Interscholastic Athletic Association (to govern athletic contests). In1913, the two organisations amalgamated and acquired the UIL moniker.
What is the UIL's purpose?
