Google Doodle Celebrates Greece National Day 2023
Today's Doodle honors Greece's National Day, or Independence Day! On this day in 1821, the Greek people started their fight for freedom against the Ottoman Empire.
Every year, individuals take the day off to observe parades across the country. Students parade through the streets in patriotic colors while waving the Greek flag to express their national pride.
On National Day, nearly all businesses are closed with the notable exception of the Acropolis Museum. Bakalarios skordalia, or cod served with mashed potatoes and garlic dip, is a traditional dish associated with the holiday that is enjoyed by many.
