About Madam Draupadi Murmu - 15th President Of India  Draupadi Murmu (born 20 June 1958) is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.  Murmu is the second person belonging to a scheduled tribe, to be nominated as a candidate for the post of President of India. She previously served as the ninth Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. Before entering state politics, Murmu worked as a teacher in public schools.  Draupadi Murmu held positions as a Junior Assistant and Assistant Professor in the Government of Odisha's Irrigation Department and Shri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Institute in Rairangpur, respectively.  In 1997, Murmu became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and was chosen to serve as a Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat councilor.  In 2000, Murmu was elected to lead Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat.
