United State of America here's to you! The Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. Thomas Jefferson's original draft of the Declaration of Independence was revised, and the United States declared their independence from Britain.
There are various ways in which Americans celebrate their independence every Fourth of July. Some customs have died out throughout the years, but others, like community parades and patriotic concerts, have been around for generations.
Today, patriotism is on display at raucous fireworks displays, crowded barbecues, and exciting backyard games all throughout the country. Some people may choose a more sedate way to celebrate, such as taking to the river for a relaxing float in the sweltering heat of July, like the celebrities in today's Doodle.
