Google Doodle Celebrates - India Independence Day | 15 August
Today's Doodle is a celebration of India's Independence Day. It was drawn by Namrata Kumar, a guest artist from New Delhi. On this day in 1947, India got rid of British rule and started a new era.
A ceremony is held every year at Red Fort in Delhi, where the Prime Minister is present, to mark the first day of freedom. People sing the national anthem and honor the people who led the fight for freedom. Movies about freedom fighters are shown on TV, and in schools and neighborhoods, children take part in plays and games as part of cultural events.
Many people choose to spend this holiday with their families, friends, and neighbors. Flying kites on Independence Day has been a custom for a long time, so don't forget to look up and spot a few tricolor kites flying high in the sky.
