The PM-KISAN scheme is a central sector scheme that has been fully funded by the Government of India since December 1, 2018. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to landholding farmer families in the form of INR 6,000 per year in three equal installments. All eligible farmer families, as defined by the scheme guidelines, are eligible for assistance, which includes the husband, wife, and minor children.

The state government and the UT administration are in charge of identifying farmer households that are eligible for assistance under the PM-KISAN plan. The funds are transferred directly to the beneficiaries' bank accounts, ensuring a smooth and transparent transfer of financial assistance.

Several groups of recipients, however, are not eligible for the scheme's benefits. They include institutional landowners, higher-income farmer families, and individuals who hold or have held constitutional positions such as ministers, members of parliament, and members of legislative assemblies.

Furthermore, the scheme excludes serving or retired officers and employees of central and state government ministries, offices, and departments, as well as regular employees of local governments. Exclusion categories also include superannuated/retired pensioners with a monthly pension of INR 10,000 or more, individuals who paid income tax in the previous assessment year, and professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, and architects who are registered with professional bodies and actively practising.

The PM-KISAN initiative intends to provide financial help to the farming community's most vulnerable members while also ensuring inclusive growth. The initiative is a step towards improving farmers' and their families' livelihoods, and it is projected to have a substantial impact on rural India's economy. The exclusion categories of the programme are meant to ensure that rewards reach the intended beneficiaries and that the scheme's money are not misappropriated.
